This guide is intended as both a companion for nature enthusiasts and a practical pocket reference for students of ecology and botany. It also aims to raise awareness among decision-makers and the general public about the richness and importance of Lebanon’s native plant life. Our goal is for this book to serve as a versatile, illustrated reference within the broader context of documenting Lebanon’s biodiversity.
Because the scientific naming of wildflowers can be complex, a simple color-based indexing system has been adopted to help non-specialist users quickly identify flowers of interest. Each flower is classified by its dominant color, and within each color section, species are arranged alphabetically by their scientific names. Readers are encouraged to consult both the violet and pink sections when unsure, as these colors are often difficult to distinguish and can be affected by sunlight and perception.
Some commonly used Arabic names are included; however, naming can vary by region and individual, and certain local names may not be listed. Every effort has been made to include the most widely recognized names, and additional input from readers is warmly welcomed.
To preserve the book’s compact format, descriptions of each flower have been kept brief. Readers with knowledge of scientific nomenclature may refer to more comprehensive reference works for detailed information. Finally, please remember that when exploring nature, take nothing but photographs and leave nothing but footprints.
